Gateway to Learning
Summer Educator Workshops

The Tanner Humanities Center’s mission is to foster innovative humanistic inquiry and scholarship.  Our public programs create opportunity for lively dialogue among scholars, students, and citizens on issues (from ancient to contemporary) pertaining to the human condition

For the past eighteen years, the Tanner Humanities Center has offered intensive, one-week workshops to teachers on important humanities topics. These workshops, based on topics suggested by teachers, allow us to honor our public service mission (as a public research university) to share our humanities teaching faculty expertise and our beautiful campus facilities with the broader community of teachers and learners.  We publicize the program widely, but over the years word has spread equally by word-of-mouth.  The “Gateway to Learning” Program frequently generates waiting lists.  Teachers can take the courses for either 3 graduate-level continuing education credit hours, or 24 contact hours.

“Gateway to Learning” is open to all teachers including high-school, junior-high and elementary teachers. The Tanner Humanities Center provides all books, parking, and lunch for out-of-town teachers. All participants must pay a non-refundable $30 administrative fee for each workshop. The continuing education credit (3 credits for a five day workshop) is available for a $40.00 administrative fee payable to University of Utah Academic Outreach and Continuing Education.  Each year these workshops are made possible by grant funds generously provided by foundations, corporations, and University departments.

Registration is first-come, first-served.  The number of participants is normally limited to 30 students.
